The Metamorpho Cut
Drum & Bass - 4:31
I've always been inspired by Kafka's short story, "The Metamorphosis". I feel a lot of empathy for the main character, Gregor Samsa, who randomly turns into a bug. This track is for him.

Angxst
Tip Hop Instrumental - 3:42
Filled with raw percussion, and a 'to-the-point' bassline, this track relfects a lot of my anger and loneliness of Bend, Or. Initial plans of recording with vocalists fell through – if you're interested, contact me.

Emerging from a dream
Trip Hop - 6:19
This track is a collaboration of local musicians in Moscow, Id, and was created for the thesis project of Aeravi Mahoney, seen here. Vocals, Aeravi Mahoney; scratching, Robin Sarff; Guitar, Eric Lyman.

CBT Live
Trip Hop Instrumental - 4:45
Inspired by the D&B musician, SPL. I wrote this track in one day, and recorded it live. Meaning 'Cognitive Behavior Therapy', this track is a relfection of my own anxieties that I face.

Liquid Moon
Drum & Bass - 4:25
Recorded with a good friend and great vocalist, Aeravi Mahoney. I got my inspiration for this track while riding the ferry from Seattle to Bainbridge Island, standing in winds more intense than I've ever felt.

Slow Hipster
Instrumental - 4:18
I have an obsession with bringing the two worlds of Drum & Bass and Trip Hop together, and this track is the result. The melodies are cheery, and the percussion is smooth. Much like a summer day.

Drum & Bass - 5:23
An oldie, but goodie. Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, and I wanted to celebrate that in a song. The abstract audio textures complement the distorted drilling drummin. Mixes well with RedBull.

Wrench
Drum & Bass - 6:06
Another oldie. I wrote this track for all the critics of electronic music. Elanna Marineau helped throw down the audio-dis with her great 'I'm-with-the-DJ' voice. I would like to re-visit this track someday ...

I have been writing electronic music since 2003, when my father bought me Fruity Loops, a software sequencer, for my birthday. Instantly, I began hammering away TB-808 basslines to swishing shakers and tweaked snares. Overtime, I found I was most attracted to drum & bass and hip hop styles. I began to mimic DJs like DJ DB, Dieselboy, AK 1200 and others with similar approaches to the genre. Obsession followed.
I built many tracks that revolved around the then-undiscovered concept of future step, or as one of my good friends put it, 'breakfast jungle'. This style borrows from the original sounds of jungle and applies it to smooth melodies and simple, but pleasing baselines. The tempo is high, but the sound is mellow. You can hear much of this influence in the tracks, "Wrench" and "The Metamorpho Cut".
In 2004, I formed the hip hop group, Paralypse, with Jon Buffington (MC), Joeseph Melior (MC) and Jason Marble (DJ). Together, we spoke out against war, commented on society, and threw down party tracks. Musically, we attempted to break into new-school sounds of hip hop while paying homage to jazz and drum & bass. We played coffee shops, house parties and festivals like the Moscow Hemp Fest.
Our run was short, though. Our common bond, education, took each of us to different parts of the country, taking away our ability to perform. We had plans for recording all of our material, but that ended when my friend's dog ate the flash drive that contained all of the raw instrumentals. Sad day.
John is now involved with acting out in Chicago, Joe is attending school in Boulder, CO, and Jason is still throwing parties in the Northwest.
Along the way, I began recording with Aeravie Mahoney, a techno-head with a history in Opera singing. Our common interest for electronic music and jazz instantly gave us a direction. Our first track, "Liquid Moon", was an attempt to mimic artists like Portishead and Sneaker Pimps. However, half-way through the project, I found myself producing a sound I had not heard before, but that I liked. The resulting mix is a smooth track with rolling drums and emotional melodies.
Aeravie's art had a major influence on our sound. Our second track, "Emerging from a dream", was built primarily for Aeravie's thesis project. I had produced the rough mix of the beat for Paralypse, but didn't use it at any of our shows because of its slow nature. When Aeravie sang one of her poems to the beat, I knew we had a good match. However, the beat needed more to become a song. After recording Aeravie's vocals, I got together with good friends Robin Sarff and my brother, Eric Lyman, to add a little to the recipe. One month later, I finished producing one of my best tracks ever.
These days, I find myself dabbling in all kinds of music. I still love D & B, but I will soon start writing some progressive trance, to change pace. I also miss performing very much. I will soon start searching for an arsenal of musicians and vocalists for a hip hop, dub, D & B-inspired act. If you are interested, contact me.
All the rest is history, waiting to be made.
